Biography

Naween Noppakun is an audiovisual-artisan with a background in music and sound design.

He was well recognized as a founding member of Sweet Mullet – one of the most influential Thai rock bands in 2000s – with sensational hit single “Tob (2004)” in which he co-wrote.

After working briefly on sound design for visual media, he fell in love with cinema and switched his artistic approach to filmmaking. His first two short films – When Her Light is Extinguished (2012) and We Love Me (2017) – have won international awards in different continents and screened at film and video art festivals all over the world.

Supported by The Ministry of Culture, his third short – Crazy Lotus (2024) – was selected for project development in the Berlinale Short Form Station 2020 and has received the Momo Distribution Grant 2023 for the emerging Southeast Asian filmmakers.

The film is distributed by Vidéographe from Montréal and had its world premiere at the IFFR 2024 where it received the Tiger Short Award.
